Proche
Leverano is perfectly positioned for exploring the very best of Salento — its historic cities, charming towns & stunning coastlines.
Lecce (25 min)
The Baroque jewel of southern Italy, often called the “Florence of the South”. Wander the magnificent Duomo square, explore the ornate churches and the Roman Amphitheatre. Browse designer boutiques, artisan shops and quirky souvenir stores tucked into the atmospheric side streets. Enjoy world-class cafés, gelaterie, wine bars and an excellent choice of restaurants. Lecce is a must-visit!
Otranto (45 min)
Dramatically perched above the Adriatic Sea, this fortified town is dominated by its impressive castle. Don’t miss the breathtaking 12th-century mosaic floor in the Duomo and the traditional linen shop for beautiful handmade pieces. The old town is full of character, with lively cafés, pizzerias and harbour-side restaurants (book early in peak season). Summer festivals along the promenade add to the magic.
Maglie (40 min)
A stylish town with elegant architecture, designer stores, and beautiful handbag boutiques. Combine it with a wander around nearby Galatina — enjoy a coffee in the piazza and soak up the authentic Puglian atmosphere.
Nardò (15 min)
A graceful town with a lovely historic centre. Parking can be limited, so pick up a parking disc from the kitchen basket
Copertino (under 10 min)
Slightly larger than Leverano, Copertino has a vibrant feel and the well-stocked DOK supermarket. Don’t miss the magnificent restored castle with its impressive display of horse-drawn carriages and restored interiors.
Beaches & Coastline-
You are spoiled for choice!
The nearest beach is Porto Cesareo (12 min), where you can hire a boat, visit the colourful fish market (try the famous tiny pink prawns, often eaten raw!), and enjoy harbour-side dining. Our guests particularly love L’Arragosta, with tables over the lagoon.
Torre Lapillo, Punta Prosciutto and Torre Chianca
Just north of Porto Cesareo lie three of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Salento: Torre Lapillo, Punta Prosciutto, and Torre Chianca. These stretches of fine white sand and crystal-clear, shallow turquoise waters are often compared to the Caribbean. There are well-equipped beach clubs (most with free parking) as well as free public areas where you can simply pitch up on the sand.
All along this coast you’ll discover wonderful sandy beaches, many with historic watchtowers perched on promontories — reminders of the Arneo district’s dramatic past when invaders were a constant threat.
Baia Verde
Just north of Gallipoli (45 min) you’ll find the widely admired Baia Verde, with its long golden sands and lively yet relaxed atmosphere — perfect for a full beach day.
Ionian Coast
On the Ionian coast (the other side) you’ll find dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, lagoons, and sea caves waiting to be explored many within a 30min drive)
Leverano –
Your Home Village
Leverano is a genuine Antico Borgo — a living, working town with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Local shops open in the morning and evenings but close for the hot afternoons. Within a 5-minute stroll from La Corte Bella you’ll find:
• Two butchers
• A fishmonger
• Fresh fruit & vegetable shop
• Traditional grocer
• The lovely Koala coffee bar
In the immediate neighbourhood, Ristorante Reme offers excellent evening dinners and pizzas (or takeaway). A little further is the town centre, where Pizzeria Franco (housed in an old tobacco factory) is famous throughout the region.
Around the main square you’ll find several restaurants and wine bars, including Il Toscanaccio (specialising in superb steaks) and a good choice of other Italian options.
Wine, Beer & Local Experiences
Leverano is surrounded by excellent wineries, most of which offer tours and tastings. The village is also home to Salento Beer, where you can enjoy brewery tours, tastings, and even picnics in the hop fields.
One for car enthusiasts: Driving north from Porto Cesareo along the coast road, you’ll see a large fenced area on the right — this is Porsche’s top secret development and testing track.
